Beth Klein
My name is Beth Klein, I am 26 and I’ve been a student of Kelly’s for 4 years now. I feel like I’ve grown exponentially as a rider and a horse person in the time that I’ve known her. I started as a hunter rider; I competed on the hunter seat equestrian team for 4 years at Virginia Tech and went to regionals twice. I competed on the dressage team at Va Tech for 3 years and went to Nationals twice. After college I got into eventing with my first horse, Sunny Sunrise. We competed at the Into level in 2 events; our first event was both mine and his first ever event. At our second
competition, we placed 2nd. Sunny has since been retired and I’ve started eventing with Murphy – a horse I started myself, one that I’ve known him since he was a weanling. He is 6 now and this spring is his first season competing. At our first event we won our elementary division. We moved up to intro at our second event and place 7th going clean cross country and stadium. Our dressage test was interrupted by a loose horse, which affected our score, but these things happen…Murphy is a wonderful little thoroughbred but without Kelly’s help, I believe he would have been a totally different horse than he is today. His conformation makes moving correctly and using himself very difficult, but with Kelly’s help we have been able to teach him the best way to use himself and it has made him a confident little powerhouse. Her integration of dressage over fences has been the reason for our early success and I can’t wait to see what her expertise does for me and Murphy in the future. I also have another young thoroughbred that I compete in dressage with that Kelly has been integral in the training with. She is a wonderful teacher and has made me the rider that I am today.

Amy Nizolek

My name is Amy Nizolek, and I have been taking lessons from Kelly for over four years. I am eighteen years old, and Travis, my Belgian Warmblood, is seven. I rode in the hunter style for six years before switching disciplines to eventing. I began working with Kelly on my previous horse Olympic Engagement, a small thoroughbred gelding, on whom I competed at local hunter shows. I immediately noticed an improvement in my horse’s balance and my effectiveness as a rider. When I purchased my new horse Travis for eventing, Kelly was supportive of me and helped me every step of the way. Because I was only 14 years old at the time, and Travis was three, I faced all the challenges of a relatively green rider on a green horse. Through her lessons and assistance, I was able to train Travis into a solid eventer. My own riding has greatly benefited from Kelly’s instruction. I have a much better understanding of how to use myself correctly and how to teach my horse to perform at his best. Over the last two years, Travis and I have placed 2nd and 1st at the novice level at Fair Hill’s unrecognized horse trials and 1st at St. Augustine at the novice level with a dressage score of 26.1 (the lower the better in eventing). I have also won the Best Equitation award at the Delmarva region USPC Stadium Rally in both 2008 and 2009. At our first dressage show ever, Travis and I placed 3rd in our First Level class and received two 6th place ribbons in our Training Level class.
